Parkview Public School celebrated a huge range of student success in front of crowd of in excess of 700 people at its 44th Annual Presentation Night on Monday. The school celebrated student achievement in all areas of the curriculum as well as extra curricula activities and community awards, while the night was highlighted by outstanding performances from the School Band and Choir as well as brilliantly executed vocalist renditions of the national anthem and the Parkview School Song.
P&C President Ian Draper addressed the gathering and took the time to single out two specific community members who had made a massive impact on the community over a long period of time. "Tonight we farewell Mrs Tarnawsky after 27 years of service to the Parkview community. She has been a credit to our school and has personified the care and professionalism shown by the staff at Parkview PS. She will be sorely missed." Year 2 student Heidi Whyatt and her mother Nicole Wilkinson made a presentation to Mrs Tarnawsky as one of many parent/ child combinations to be taught by the lady affectionately known as Mrs T.
Mr Draper also acknowledged the role of long serving P&C member Mrs Joanne Pianca who was bestowed with the honour of Life Membership of the Parkview P&C Association after a long period of service to the school. "Joanne has been a tireless worker for the children and community of Parkview. She has been a key stakeholder in the establishment of the Chaplaincy Program at the school, was part of the re-birth of the Parkview Fete, helped re-establish the School Canteen that was in recess and of course has held various executive roles across more than a decade of service to our community. We wish Jo and her family all the best in the next phase of their lives."
Principal Travis Irvin also reflected upon what he described as an amazing year of learning at Parkview. "It continues to be a privilige to live and work in one of the most incredibly vibrant, inclusing and diverse educational environments imaginable.
2014 has produced wide ranging accolades for our students in a range of areas including of course scholastic endeavours, sporting fields and in the creative and performing arts. I would quickly like to mention a few of the achievements that stood above others in 2014:
Year 2 student Tamika Rourke capped a remarkable sporting year after being crowned the Riverina Girls 8 Years 100m champion in August. The incredible effort saw her become only the second Infants student in Parkview history to attend the NSWPSSA State Athletics Championships in Sydney.
This year as well our students enjoyed a first, with our choir being selected to perform at School's Spectacular for the very first time. Our 10 strong choir performed with distinction at the QANTAS Credit Union Arena during November and has opened up another gifted and talented path way for future Parkview students to explore.
The school again excelled in the Creative and Practical Arts. Parkview provided four memorable contributions to ‘Shine On Broadway'once again receiving widespread acclaim for unique and inspiring contributions to the three shows hosted at the LHS MPC. Standout performances from our School Band, Dance Groups and Choirs supported by wonderful costuming and makeup from members of the Parkview community made the event one to savour.
The school also drew acclamation courtesy of the performances of the Wiradjuri Dance Group who performed in locations across the area including the Tourist Information Centre and Gossamer Park for NAIDOC Week, Murrumbidgee Rural Studies Centre as part of the 25 years celebrations of the Aboriginal Rural Training Program hosted by the Leeton Local AECG and at the recently completed Proud and Deadly Awards at Parkview PS.
2014 featured significant innovation in our classrooms. Students have continued to benefit from the continued expansion of L3 practises from Kindergarten to Year 2, the implementation of the new National English Curriculum and the consolidating of continuum tracking mechanisms in Literacy and Numeracy based around PLAN software which continues to provide better informed individual student learning and feedback for parents and carers. In addition, a renewed focus on writing skills and conventions coupled with a significant investment in ‘Focus On Reading' professional learning have continued to ensure best practise quality pedagogy is delivered across all stages of learning at Parkview. The results of this have been reflected in pleasing growth of students in standardised testing and outstanding results in UNSW competitions.
I would like to personally thank all the parents and community members who have made the choice to engage in the education process with children at Parkview Public School. Whether you are a helper in the classroom, at sporting events, providing transport, attending information sessions and open days or by supporting your child's learning in the home, you make a critical investment in the education of our youth and they really do value it.
I would like to acknowledge the extremely dedicated, skilful and professional staff at Parkview Public School for their ongoing commitment to our students. Teachers, School Learning Support Officers, Administrative Staff and General Assistants all play key roles in the education of our children. Once again, every staff member has made an immeasurable contribution to the development of children in our community. Thank you for your dedication and passion for the children in our community and our school in general."
The range of awards presented during the evening was extensive, including new awards for excellence in vocals, drama and dance and instruments and the striking of a memorial award in honour of former Parkview Assistant Principal Ian Lucas for public speaking.
