LNPSSA Boys Soccer Championships

Parkview Public School had a successful campaign at the LNPSSA Boys Soccer Championships held recently at the Leeton Ovals Precinct.

In the first game against Narrandera PS, the boys’ team started strongly, locking the ball in their attacking zone. However, Narrandera’s defence was solid early.  The Parkview back line consisting of Jayden Fichera, Elijah Berney, Connor Holden and Charlie Watson ensured Narrandera could not control possession across the half-way line. With the continuous pressure, Narrandera’s defence started to fail and Tallis McMillan found the net with a strike from mid-range. Two minutes later, Connor Holden extended the lead to two. Parkview’s confidence continued with Elijah Berney scoring in the tenth minute and Dean De Valentin again just before half time to give Parkview a 4 goal buffer at half time.

The second half continued with Parkview controlling possession, but Narrandera were not giving up. Narrandera found some space in their attacking zone, but Kobe O’Callaghan was up to the test in goals. Luca Pitt kept pushing forward and Vinnie Ward working hard down the wing giving options. Five minutes into the second half, Cruze Dale scored for Parkview, and Kyis Stevens-Davis confidently struck a penalty shot to confirm 6-0 victory.

In the final against Leeton Public School, Parkview again started strongly. Possession continued to be battled for throughout the mid-field with Parkview’s defensive team pushing the ball forward. Ben Watson and Charlie Watson worked tirelessly in the midfield, running the ball wide and making metres up the paddock. It was five minutes into the first half when Tallis McMillan gained possession at half-way, displaying fancy footwork to navigate through the defence and another mid-range strike put Parkview in the lead. Last minute efforts in defence by Elijah Berney, Tallis McMillan and Eden Richardson, as well as some great saves in the goals by Kobe O’Callaghan ensured Leeton PS remained scoreless for the first half.

Leeton PS started with possession in the second half and looked determined. However, within 3 minutes, Parkview had scored via a great team effort from Xavier Chilko pushing forward, being support by Charlie Watson and finally Tallis McMillan with another clean strike of the ball. Elijah Berney scored his second for the day six minutes into the second half giving Parkview a 3-0 advantage. Leeton PS responded quickly, aiming to stay in the game, but just before full time, after another strong effort from Charlie Watson to gain possession, Dean De Valentin displayed great ball control to put one past the keeper confirming Parkview’s victory 4-1 and its first Eric Hudson Shield since 2016.

LNPSSA Girls Soccer Championships

Parkview’s Girls Soccer Team has won their first LNPSSA Championship in 3 years after an entertaining day of competition at the Parkview Oval recently.

The team met Narrandera PS in the first round of the competition and came out of the blocks quickly, placing significant pressure on the Narrandera defence. Daniella Draper and Chelsea Blacker provided spark through the midfield while Sharna Morriss and Taylah Axtill were damaging in the attacking area. Amelia Irvin also worked hard in attack and was rewarded with a first half double putting Parkview in a commanding position at half time.

Renewed enthusiasm from Narrandera in the second saw Parkview need to work hard in defence, with Holley Krause, Tara White and Shaniqua Pawa all providing stubbourn resistance to repel the Narrandera attacking moves. Mid way through the half Taylah Axtill neatly converted a penalty kick before she was again in the action scoring her second goal in as many minutes, this time with a clever left footed strike, ensuring Parkview safe passage to the LNPSSA Finals.

The final was a thrilling affair against Leeton PS, with Parkview dominating possession and field position but were denied time and time again by some clever work by the Leeton PS keeper. Sophie Taylor was dominant in midfield and defence for Parkview while the corners continued to mount up for Parkview thanks to some incisive attacking runs from Lana Simcoe and Jaleigh Ingram Pitts but the despite this, the score remained locked at 0-0 at Half Time.

The second half saw more of the same, with Parkiew continuing to attack thanks to good play from Jaida Crowe and Jessica Draper but just not able to convert on the scoreboard. Comfortably ahead on corners, Parkview just needed to keep a clean sheet to claim the LNPSSA title, but this looked in real danger as Leeton PS made to two late attacking raids, only to be denied by some composed goalkeeping from Emily Jackson, giving Parkview the win on corners.
